The Legacy of Rose Martin: Bonnie Billups, Executive Director, Peace Neighborhood Center - The Passing of Rose Martin, Co-Founder of Peace - When Bonnie Billups was a little boy growing up in Ann Arbor, Rose Martin became his “second mom.” She had co-founded Peace Neighborhood Center with a vision of helping others distressed by poverty, teaching them how to make choices that lead to self-sufficiency. One of her greatest success stories was Bonnie, who great up to become her successor at Peace. Following her passing last week, he shared with us what her loss means to the community.

Main Street Area Association: Kuroshio - Maura Thomson, MSAA Executive Director; Alan Wang, Owner, Kuroshio - One of the newewst restaurants to open in downtown Ann Arbor is the dream of Kenneth Wang and Grace Chen and their son, Alan Wang. The Chef’s Special comes highly recommended, inspired by Japanese Bento.

Around the Home: Pauline Apartments – Pete Nowakowski, BRAG Ann Arbor (Builders & Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor); Avalon Housing’s Kimberly Wilcox, Director of Marketing Communications & Development, and Carole McCabe, Founding Executive Director – Avalon Housing is a community-based, non-profit organization that was created in 1992 to develop, own, and manage permanent supportive housing. Its mission is to provide affordable housing and support services for Washtenaw County’s lowest income households. Avalon manages 280 units at 25 locations throughout Ann Arbor. We learn more about its newest property in development, Pauline Apartments.
