October 24, 2013: EMU Professor Bud Gibson, Computer Information Systems - All new content on the merging worlds of search and social media marketing will be featured at this year’s workshop, which includes lunch keynote speaker Matt Cardwell, VP of Marketing, Quicken Loans. In collaboration with Google Ann Arbor, Bud Gibson initiated the hands-on search marketing track at Eastern Michigan University. Bud’s search marketing students have developed and managed millions of dollars of Google AdWords campaigns for over 80 non-profit client organizations. EMU’s search marketing alumni currently work in significant roles at regional and national employers such as Apple, Quicken Loans, Starcom, Pure Visibility, Edwards-Malloy, and Whole Brain Group.

ALaura Clarkugust 29, 2013:  Tech Thursday: Drive-Ins and the Digital Divide – Laura Clark, Co-Owner, Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre in Honor, Michigan – The first drive-in movie theater opened in 1933 in Camden, New Jersey.  At their height there were 4,000 outdoor movie theaters, thanks to the growing interest in automobiles.  Today, there are just 368 drive-ins showing movies in the U.S.  Now the industry faces its biggest challenge, as a new film distribution system is forcing drive-ins to convert to digital projectors and many can’t afford it.

This Ann Arbor start-up called SkySpecs recently took the top prize of $50,000 at the Michigan Clean Energy Venture Challenge, as well as third place in the student division of the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition.
